A 1976 vintage Glenrothes from back when the distillery was home to only six stills - they currently have ten stills! This was filled into second-fill American oak hogshead #2677 in February 1976 and allowed to age until December 2015, when it was bottled with an outturn of just 238 bottles. A special bottle indeed from the Speyside single malt distillery.
Nose: Caramel, a pinch of earthy tobacco, stewed fruit notes developing sweetly in the background.
Palate: Polished oak furniture and old leather, with continued hints of poached pear and cigar box.
Finish: Flaky pastry and a very subtle hint of chilli chocolate.
