Compass Box Spice Tree
Compass Box's delicious Spice Tree was briefly illegitimate, according to SWA regulations. After adjusting its creation, Spice Tree is back, and better than ever. It's a blended malt made from Highland malt whiskies, aged in specially made casks with new French oak heads.
In April 2015, it was named Best Blended Malt Scotch at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition.
Nose:Fragrant and aromatic with notes of dried herbs, spices, oak and vanilla. Has a bourbon note to it and a peppery tang.
Palate:Gingernut biscuits, toffee spices, herbal, vanilla, very rich and peppery.
Finish:Very spicy, big and rich.
Compass Box Oak Cross
A great blended malt from Compass Box. This was specially crafted by John Glaser, the whisky zealot. It contains highland single malts like Teaninich and secret malts from the villages of Carron and Brora.
Palate:Tart fruit, red apples, tannic, honey, tiny hint of Christmas spice.
Finish:Oak, malt, spicy sweetness, milk.
Compass Box Peat Monster
A peaty offering and a vatted malt created by the renowned John Glaser, of Compass Box. The Peat Monster contains whisky from secret distilleries (all very cloak and dagger). They can tell us that some was from the village of Port Askaig in Islay, with some south coast Islay whisky too, vatted with Ardmore. This was matured in a mix of first fill and refill American oak casks.
Nose:Peat, marked salinity, leans to Caol Ila in style, something medicinal. Sweet and fruity, grainy.
Palate:Peat, oak. Botanicals, floral, coppery, sweet, smoky bacon, hint of papaya.
Finish:A lingering sweetness, more peat, floral: roses and violets, sweet spice, oak.
Compass Box Hedonism
A delightful blended grain whisky, Hedonism really is as enjoyable as the name suggests, a smooth and creamy offering from Compass Box.
Nose:From the first delectable introduction, Hedonism is all ripe fruit, fraises des bois and sponge cake. Some red pepper provides an interesting point to mull.
Palate:Very sensual, disarmingly sleek and creamy. Black cherry and sweet spices, some cereal notes.
Finish:Very warm and spiced, toasty, some oak and milk chocolate.
Compass Box Story of the Spaniard
This Blended Malt Scotch Whisky brings a new style to the Compass Box portfolio. Rich, fruity and decadent from whiskies aged in Spanish wine casks, it’s a whisky ideal for late evening sipping or for stirring into a culinary cocktail.
Full, soft and sumptuous on the palate with flavours of citrus peel and pears poached in red wine and spices. The finish is long, with hints of rich vanilla panna cotta, ripe berries and cherries.
