Fable Whisky - Chapter 2: Folk (Linkwood 12yo, 59.4% ABV)
Linkwood has a strong cult following and is much sought after by whisky enthusiasts. It is considered a noble malt, produced at one of the region’s oldest distilleries.
It was founded in open land but is now part of the expanding town of Elgin. Nevertheless, sited by a reservoir, it is in a pretty area.
The malt can serve up the odd surprise, such as aniseed and smokiness, but it tends to be complex, with sweet and sour notes and some pleasant fruity and grassy notes.
Barley sugars, yellowfruit, apple, banana, apricot, peach. An obvious fragrant aroma of lemonzest. Further notes of ripe plums. Dilution brings ripe melon, guava, faint allspice.
Sweet and soft with lots of fruit and acidity, lemon, mint, cinnamon and green tea. Lemon cake and dried pineapple.
Green grapes, kiwi, cinnamon, fresh green apple skin. Short - medium length with a cleanfreshness.
